Okay, this is not a drill! I am finally getting a greenhouse and I’m so excited I can hardly stand it. Like, I’ve been dreaming about this for years, and now it’s actually happening. I wanted to let y’all in on what I picked, why I picked it, and what it’s gonna look like once it’s here (because let’s be real, we’re all gonna be living in this thing with me once it’s up 😂 ).

The Specs, But Make It Cute

Love this look!
Love this look!

So here’s the tea:

I ordered an 8x12 cottage-style greenhouse from BC Greenhouse Builders, and it’s basically my garden fairytale come to life. It’s Arctic White (duh), with the prettiest decorative ridge cresting and little finials on top that make it feel super charming and vintagey without being fussy.

The whole thing is glass, like, actual tempered glass, both on the roof and the walls. That means it’s gonna sparkle like a dang jewel in the sun. But yes, I already know I’m gonna need to get some kind of shade system in there so my plants don’t get sunburned. More on that later. (The photos attached are the Inspo)

Built to Last (and Withstand the Wild Weather)

It’s rated for 85 mph winds and a 32 PSF snow load, which is wild because it basically means it’s tougher than I am! 😂

And it’s going on a solid concrete foundation with an 18" raised wall to give us a bit more height and drama.

And speaking of that foundation: we hired JRC Cement Inc. to do the work, and they’re pouring a stem wall slab foundation that’s 6 inches thick and 18 inches tall with rebar reinforcement. The slab itself will be 4 inches thick with more rebar and sloped slightly toward the doors so water drains properly. It’ll be a natural gray concrete with a broom finish, and honestly—she’s gonna look so good. All debris is being hauled off too, so no mess. Total cost for the foundation was $6,500 and construction is scheduled to wrap up by May 23rd!

I also added double bay side vents with automatic openers AND upgraded to a double storm door with custom placement, because I want to be able to move carts or big trays in and out easily without playing greenhouse Tetris.

Total Cost Breakdown (Because I Know You’re Curious)

The base price for this model was $10,870, but with all the bells and whistles I added (vents, double doors, door placement, paint, shipping), it came out to a little over $16,800. Add in the foundation and we’re looking at just over $23,000 all-in.

Which I know is a lot—but this is a forever piece.

This is my creative studio, my plant spa, my garden escape room.

This isn’t just a structure.

It’s a whole mood.

Why Now?

Honestly, with everything going on in the garden (and in my life), this just felt like the right time. I’ve got all these perennials I want to winter over, seedlings I want to start early, and some new content ideas I can’t wait to film in here. #VisitOurGarden is about to level up in a big way.

I’ll be sharing the whole process, foundation pouring, greenhouse delivery, build day (!!!), and of course, how I set it up inside. If you’ve got greenhouse questions or want to see certain parts of the setup in more detail, hit me up. I’m an open book. If you are interested in getting your own BC greenhouse make sure you tell them Robbie sent you!

More soon!
