As the leaves begin to transform into brilliant shades of red and gold, I can't help but embrace the enchantment of this season. It's a time for oversized sweaters, pumpkin-spiced EVERYTHING, and all those cozy feelings.
Today, I'm immersing myself in the beauty of Fall with a day dedicated to decorating the front porch of our charming 1920s home, a project I've yearned to undertake since we moved here four years ago. While the entire transformation took me three days to complete, each day was filled with just a few hours of effort.
Day 1: Shopping Spree
I spent several hours at Hobby Lobby searching for the perfect items to bring my vision to life. I knew some pieces might be harder to find, but their extensive selection made it easy to make substitutions if necessary.
Day 2: The Doorway Delight
With a game plan in hand, I began by softening the grapevines with a 15-minute soak to make them more pliable. I then placed them atop the doorway on the right side and secured them to the house with twine and staples as I followed the natural contours of the vines, draping them along the left side of the door. This immediately achieved the impact I desired. Adding a stunning Kimberly queen fern at the base of the grape vines give the green color that is needed. I proceeded to adorn the display with leaves, florals, and branches, bringing the entire look together. A tip: use scented pinecones in your garland for an instant whiff of autumn even before your guests arrive, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.
But it needed a few more touches to truly make it special. A quick trip to the local pumpkin patch did the trick. Once home, I spent a bit too long fussing over their arrangement, but it was worth it. The final touch by the door was a layered doormat – combining a cheap rug the size of the door frame with a doormat the size of the door itself. It's an uncommon touch that adds a warm and inviting vibe as people enter your home.
Day 3: Bringing it All Together
Now, it's time to extend the front door's charm to the steps. Black urn planters elevate the plant display, with each arrangement featuring three plants and two small white pumpkins. I used Crotons for their vibrant Fall colors, a lovely burgundy Mum, and Purple Fountain Grass for height and airy movement.
Just before nightfall, I knew the porch needed one final element – twinkling lights. I purchased plug-in twinkle lights and wove them through the garland, completing the look. These new front step planters turned out better than I could have imagined, tying the whole concept together beautifully.
Of course, no autumn day is complete without a steaming pumpkin spiced latte. So, after a day of accomplishment, I rewarded myself with the perfect Fall drink – the first of many during my favorite season.

You are such a great writer and story teller. I truly enjoyed reading this after I‘ve had watched the video, made me see it in a different perspective. And the picture of your dog in front of all the fall decor was the final touch for me 🍁🍂🤩
